While drinking in a bar in San Pedro Town, Belize I noticed a guy who looked as though he
had just lost his best friend. I got to talking with him and he told me he was a coconut farmer and his name was
Julio. He said he had just trekked into San Pedro to find work at one of the tourist hotels because lethal
yellowing disease had destroyed his coconut crop. He added that he had to leave his girl back on his
farm in Stann Creek. I decided to buy him a drink so asked him what he's drinking. He said, "Today I'm Drinking
Coconut Rum". When I got back to my cabana in Caye Caulker I sat down with my six string and wrote his story... "But Today
I'm Drinking Coconut Rum".
